The Mediterranean coast along the South of France is a paradise for water enthusiasts. During a recent press trip to Collioure, France I had the opportunity to kayak along the rocky coastline and small coves of Côte Vermeille. Named for its red rock, the Côte Vermeille (Vermilion Coast) runs south from Collioure to Cerbère on the Spanish border, where the Pyrenees foothills dip to the sea.
With its ideal location between mountains and sea, there are a multitude of activities to enjoy in Collioure, from swimming in its crystal-clear waters and relaxing on its pebble beaches and little bays to exploring the rugged coastlines by kayak.
Water based activities include: diving, snorkeling, pedal boats, kayaking and canoe rentals, paddle boarding, fishing, deep-sea fishing competitions and boat trips to explore the region.
Kayak De Mer
Aleoutes Kayak de Mer is a family run, slow adventure activity business based at the Port de Plaisance in Banyuls-sur-Mer. Banyuls-sur-Mer is a coastal resort and beach set around a natural bay and port, it located about 20 minutes from the town of Collioure.
Kayak De Mer owner and instructor, John, spends his summer months working on the Côte Vermeille with his protégé, who is also his daughter. The family duo offer affordable, guided Kayak trails, kayak hire and sea excursions along the beautiful Mediterranean. No experience is required and complete beginners of all ages and abilities are welcome.
Sea kayaking from Banyuls-sur-Mer allows you to discover the sea caves, islands and coves that dot along the rocky bays and rugged coastline. It’s a wonderful way to explore the Côte Vermeille coast.
