Bonjour mes amis (hello my friends), I recently spent 3 spectacular days in the South of France. During my time away I spent a night in The Madeloc Hotel in Collioure. This charming three-star hotel is the perfect hub for discovery the area, offering swift and easy access to beaches, the town centre and the train station.

The Fishing Port of Collioure

The hotel is situated on a hillside overlooking the historical mountains of Collioure. After we checked in (Check-in time starts at 3 PM) and offloaded our bags we made the short journey, just 500 metres, to Collioure town centre for a bite to eat. Collioure is a historic working fishing village virtually unspoilt by time. But there’s way more than just fishing going on in this picturesque town, it’s ideal for romantic trips, girlie getaways, walking holidays, wine tasting and tapas trails. Other top attractions are the Château Royal, the Musée d’Art Moderne and Fort Saint-Elme dating back to 1538 which has the most magnificent views of Collioure harbour and the surrounding town.

Room With a View

Although my stay in The Madeloc Hotel was short and sweet, I still managed to appreciate the colourful views from my room. Every time I travel I hope to score a hotel room with a view, whether it’s a stunning waterfront, hotel pool or panoramic mountaintop, it’s nice to wake up to something different.

Rooms are located on one of the three floors of the hotel and are accessible by stairs only. I was lucky enough to be appointed a room on the second floor which had a terrace leading out to some steps through the garden. The uphill steps lead to the pool area and sun trap, while the downhill path lead to the breakfast area. All rooms features air conditioning, LCD TV and a minibar.

Madeloc also offers free WiFi throughout the property but the service isn’t great. I could only get connection at the reception area.

Rooftop Hot Tub

When you’ve spent the morning sight-seeing and rambling around the town, it’s important to be able to relax in style! The roof top solarium at The Madeloc Hotel features magnificent views, year-round heated outdoor swimming pool (heated April-Oct), and the “pièce de résistance”, a stunning roof top hot tub with breathtaking views of Collioure. If you really want to spoil yourself, beauty treatments and massages are available upon request.

Breakfast

A buffet breakfast is offered every morning with the option to dine in the comfort of your room, in the restaurant or al fresco – I chose the latter. Gluten-free options are available, I ordered fresh gluten-free bread to accompany my vegetarian meal. Check-out time is 11:30 AM so there’s plenty of time to enjoy a tasty breakfast at your leisure. Alternatively, you can opt for an early breakfast and have one last dip in the pool.
