A family holiday doesn’t have to mean planes, trains or boat journeys. A staycation on your doorstep can be just as much of an adventure as travelling abroad. My family and I recently went on a road trip to Drogheda Co. Louth, which is only 35 minutes from my front door (in Donabate). We found ourselves at the family friendly 4 star d Hotel in the heart of Drogheda town. The central location with river views offers a great hub for touring and exploring The Boyne Valley.
During our stay we learned that family fun is a priority at the d! From the moment we checked in we were astounded by the level of service from the staff, who are a credit to the d Hotel. The hotel provide a great range of family accommodation and facilities. We received such a warm welcome when arriving and no request was too difficult. The two boys age 10 and 11 couldn’t get enough of the games room. The Kids’ Games Room is open to the d Hotel guests exclusively, and offers a great choice of family-friendly games including ice hockey, bowling, foosball and a mini pool table.
Only 40 minutes from Dublin with complimentary parking the award-winning hotel, offers the perfect location for discovering the medieval town of Drogheda. Situated on the banks of the River Boyne, this impressive waterfront location includes the Scotch Hall shopping complex and a purpose-built pedestrian bridge to the town centre, with its many traditional pubs and restaurants. We walked down the town and enjoyed dinner in the charming Scholar Townhouse, their gluten-free options are very impressive and the food was outstanding.

Our room was super spacious with a king size double bed and two single beds, we could have easily fit at least ten children in there. Complete with comfy chairs, soft beds, fluffy towels, comfortable surroundings and complimentary broadband. After a great nights sleep in our humongous bed we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with the boys.
The breakfast was excellent with a good selection of both cold and hot food with fresh juice and plenty of tea/coffee.
The d Hotel offer a great range of family packages available during the Mid-Term Breaks, Easter and summer holidays. With many things to do nearby such as a day at Funtasia, a trip to Tayto Park or go karting at White River Park. The hotel have a large number of family rooms available. Each spacious family room consists of a king bed and single bed and a rollaway can be added on request. The family room accommodates 2 adults and 2 children and interconnecting rooms for larger families are available on request.
Honestly, I was tempted to book a 3rd night in the hotel but we had to head back to Dublin as the boys had school on Monday morning. We had a memorable stay and I’d definitely recommend the d Hotel, Drogheda.
