It’s January and you’re strapped for cash. Being broke doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a day out in Dublin. If you love the city, love free entry and fancy a day out touring Dublin, then I’d suggest you visit Dublin Castle and Chester Beaty Library. My mom and I recently had a girlie day out on the cheap and wandered into the lively grounds of Dublin Castle for a gander.
Situated in the heart of the city centre, and known as the heart of historic Dublin, the grounds of Dublin Castle just off Dame Street, are free to explore. Relax in the cafe and have a cuppa tea (only €2 – so it won’t break the bank), while taking in the views of the castle grounds and gardens. Unfortunately the building was under some construction on my recent visit, but still remained visually beautiful all the same.
As we strolled through the grounds we discovered, The Chester Beatty Library. Here we found an art museum and library which houses the great collection of manuscripts, miniature paintings, prints, drawings, rare books and some decorative arts assembled by Sir Alfred Chester Beatty (1875-1968). Admission is free into the library.
Would you believe, the Lonely Planet described it as not just the best museum in Dublin, but one of the best in Europe! The Chester Beatty Library is a must-see on any Dublin visitor’s itinerary.

Dubh Linn Garden
Mom and I strolled through the enclosed garden grounds, among the many people dining al fresco in the clear, calm weather conditions. We sat outside and got to people watch, as little groups of friends and work colleagues, were dotted around the grass, casually chatting and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. The landscaped Dubh Linn garden is a lovely location where you can chill out and unwind on your lunch break.
